No matter how lofty our ambitions, we need skill, self-awareness, and humility to enact those effectively. Sometimes it’s about building systems of communication, or about how to move funding to the places it can do the most good. Sometimes it’s about building safer spaces to nurture hard but necessary conversations. Sometimes it’s about envisioning strategy and structures that hold our own feet to the fire. Sometimes it’s about finding ways to bring people together across differences.

Example: I’ve supported the creation of networks of people working in different ways on issues of shared concern. That involves questions like: How will we talk together? What are we willing to offer to others, knowing how busy we are? How do we make decisions, generate resources, design processes?
